The Phantom of the Open

Presented by Hurst Village Cinema

Another Sunday film based on a true story; this time of Maurice Flitcroft (Mark Rylance), who entered the 1976 Open despite never having played a round of golf before. It’s in the classic British tradition of a blue-collar man sticking it to the hierarchy with a brazen charm and happy-go-lucky attitude towards life.

This humble crane operator from Barrow-in-Furness then shoots the worst round in Open history and drew the ire of the golfing elite, but became a folk hero in the process and, more importantly, showed his family the importance of pursuing your dreams.

An uplifting and moving comedy drama about shooting for the stars, no matter what hand you’re dealt.  Starring the ever-excellent Sally Hawkins and Mark Rylance.
