The Breadwinner

Presented by Fabrica

The Breadwinner / 2017 / 1hr&34mins / Subtitled / Rated 12

To take part in Remembrance Day 2022 we will be viewing The Breadwinner, a heartwarming animated tale of bravery and insight into life in a war-torn country.

The story follows Parvana who is an 11-year-old girl, living under Taliban rule in Afghanistan in 2001. Parvana embarks on an epic adventure to find her father after his wrongful arrest. Parvana’s quest of danger and freedom involves cutting off her hair and dressing like a boy to support her family.

“The Breadwinner looks through the eyes of a resilient young girl whose courage is our guide. Along with the eerie beauty of the animation there is a salving streak of humour that softens this tale’s sharper edges, reminding us that – for children – laughter and bravery walk hand in hand.” Mark Kermode, The Guardian

Doors & refreshments open at 5pm for a 5:15pm start. Affordable refreshments and popcorn stand on site.

This event is part of Formative Film, a National Lottery and BFI Film Audience Network funded project.
