Rashomon

Presented by Ropetackle Film Club

The film that woke up the world to Japanese Cinema.

The bandit Tajomar is accused of raping Masako and then murdering her husband. At the trial the abused wife, the embittered husband (speaking through a medium) and the lecherous bandit all give self-serving accounts of the crime.

But a woodcutter who witnessed the crimes gives another, more objective account of what happened revealing that nothing is what it seems, and everyone involved is a moral and physical coward.

Outstandingly directed by Akira Kurosawa.
