FILM: My Life As A Courgette

My Life as a Courgette / 2016 / 65 mins / English with Subtitles / Rated PG

Presented in partnership with Fresh Perspectives, Fabrica’s young film programmers group.

Fresh Perspectives selected My Life as a Courgette in response to Fabrica’s summer exhibition, My Crazy Family Golf by Lisa Watts, focusing on themes which explore complex care dynamics and family.

My Life as a Courgette is an Oscar-nominated, French-Swiss stop-motion film based on Gilles Paris’s book Autobiographie d’une courgette. Its frank and poignant story follows Icare, nicknamed Courgette, a young boy who is sent to a children’s home. Courgette meets fellow youngsters with their own stories of complicated families.

“Combining the poetic possibilities of animation with the down-to-earth dialogue of tough real lives… this beautifully tender and empathetic film addresses kids and adults alike in clear and compassionate tones that span – and perhaps heal – generations.” Mark Kermode, The Guardian.

After the screening, there will be a play-dough workshop table, with a bar and music, for audiences stay for the clay. We’ll be making our own colourful vegetables, but the possibilities for creating are endless.

Doors & Bar open 7:30pm for a 8pm start. Pay bar and affordable popcorn stand on site.
