FILM & DISCUSSION: Body of Water
Body Of Water is the beautifully shot documentary film which follows wild swimmer Gilly McArthur, on her mental and physical journey to seek out remote, icy waters. From the windswept mountain tarns of Gilly’s home in the Lake District to frozen lochs in the Scottish Highlands, the search for ice is not as easy as it used to be.
This film provides a window into a world that many can’t comprehend, illustrating why this growing pastime of wild swimming is so compelling and full of joy for those who are bold enough to try it. The film takes the audience on a personal, immersive and deeply meditative journey. Body Of Water shows us how interaction with our natural surroundings can help quieten the mind and the importance of looking after our environment.
‘All you can do in very cold water is let go. Let go of the day before and the day ahead. Of ego and expectation. Of what is going to happen in the next few moments when the sharp cold takes hold.’ – Gilly McArthur
Directly after the film the bar will reopen and Dr. Catherine Kelly, University of Brighton (and author of Blue Spaces) will facilitate a conversation with Gilly McArthur, followed by audience questions and answers.
Doors & bar open at 6pm, screening at 6.45pm
