A screening of locally-made short dramas, documentaries and animation. Presented in partnership with Cinecity.

CINECITY presents the 20th edition of the festival this November with the very best in world cinema and a diverse programme of premieres and previews, treasures from the archive, artists’ moving image, talks and special events. The festival gives audiences first sight of highly anticipated titles ahead of UK release and showcases many others brought to Brighton from around the world for one-off screenings.

A House for New England . Dir: Marisa Zanotti. 28.24 mins.

  • Kinetic documentary, A House for New England, explores the eight floors of ’the ugliest building’ in Brighton. Wig makers, tailors, entrepreneurs, film makers, engineers, coders and skating lobsters co- exist under the watchful eye of the indomitable building managers, Marie and Kathleen, ’she’s nice and I’m not so nice’.

The Love Below . Dir: Andrew Finch. 30 mins.

  • A documentary exploring the South East London waterways and their dwellers. The film follows those who venture into these rivers searching for something below their embankment walls and depths. A journey of early-2000s cultural homage, graffiti culture, train networks, ecology, urban fishing, folklore and the joy of wandering off the city’s beaten track.
